Henri Cartier-Bresson Task

Subject - The themes I obtained from viewing this photograph is: Unorthodox, Social Normality, Social Influence, Freedom, Hope, Working Class, Differentiation.

Content - In this photograph, a boy is launching himself through the air over a huge puddle of water, whilst the other people in the background are walking across a dry path to remain dry.

Form - The lines of the of railings forming a background, also drawing your attention to the background of the photograph. In the background there is lines of the buildings which look like factories. Insinuating that the photograph is obtianned by people who are working class. In the foreground of the photograph, there is a boy launching himself through the air in attempted to clear the puddle which demonstrates freedom and hope radiating from the individual. The boy launching himself from the ladder in the water to attempt to cross it, where as the rest of the people in the photograph are walking around the background on a dry clear pathway insinuates the idea of differentiation in class and how he isn't affected by social influences and is happy to just be unorthodox and continue to go against the social norms.

How Form Links Subject & Content

The form of a photo links the subject and content of a photograph by using techniques such as lines, tone, colour etc... to develop and portray more depth of the story behind the photo. The subject and content display the basic layout of what the story is that the photograph is trying to portray, the form conveys more information about the story to which you might not pick up from just the content and subject of the photograph. Also the form of the photograph can draw your attention to certain aspects of the content and subject using such elements as lines for example.
